Do your homework before you buy. Most stores automatically pull recalled items from the shelves, but that isn't always a guarantee. Look up the model in question before buying, and read reviews and articles on the product to make sure that no recalls exist.

2
Sign up for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's emails. It's free and takes only a few seconds to start receiving recall information on thousands of baby products (see Resources below). This could be the difference between keeping your baby safe or putting him in harm's way, and every new parent should be on the list.

Register your high chair when you buy it. Most of them come with a registration card, or list a website that you can go visit to register your high chair. If it ever gets recalled, the company can notify you via email or mail and tell you what to do to get your product up to code.
