How to Rent a Combine Harvester
A combine harvester combines several farming operations into one machine. Due to this multi-use, combine harvesters are one of the most expensive pieces of farm equipment to purchase. As an alternative, some farmers rent the combine harvester or hire a person to do the harvesting for him.

1
Contact a farmer about renting his equipment.
-
2
Arrange a season rather than a specific date to use the equipment. Ask to use the equipment for wheat harvesting during that season before or after the farmer's wheat is in. Find a friendly farmer who farms a different crop than yours and reserve the equipment for that season.

3
Know the equipment you are going to rent. Inspect the equipment for defects or flaws. Do a thorough check with the owner and document with the owner the defects of the equipment.
-
4
Consider buying used equipment. Look on websites like Agriseek for affordable combine harvesters (see Resources below).
-
5
Hire a service that harvests the crop for you. It is difficult to arrange a specific time to rent equipment for a specific crop. Hire a company, such as Holland Harvesting, Inc., that harvests crops (see Resources below).
-
6
Hire a neighboring farmer to harvest your crop with his combine harvester. He knows the equipment and can quickly fit you into his schedule. Decide on a price, put it in writing and get signatures.
