When it comes to cheerleading stunts, the high-flying action pumps the crowd up--but only as long as the cheerleaders dismount with ease. A poor dismount may result in an accident and will distract the crowd's attention. In a pop down dismount, the base frees the cheerleader from the lift by placing her directly on the floor.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Brace for a Pop Down Dismount

Step1
Maintain contact with the cheerleader through the stunts. The ability to perform stunts flawlessly requires a steady support--or base--for the flyer.
Step2
Lift the cheerleader up to begin the dismount. This lift creates the "pop" visual effect. The type of lift depends on the location of the cheerleader. If the cheerleader stands on your shoulders, bend your knees, move down and quickly stand back up.
Step3
Brace the cheerleader through the entire dismount. Pop down dismounts place the cheerleader directly in front of the spotter. As the cheerleader comes down across your body, let your hands slide along the sides of the cheerleader.
Step4
Release the cheerleader once she regains her balance and position your body according to your routine. You may put your arms in a "V" over the cheerleader or drop your arms to the side.

Perform the Pop Down Dismount

Step1
Position your body to dismount. As the main base moves to begin the pop, slightly push up with your feet. If you need to move from behind the head to the front, do so as you lift; make sure you don't kick the main base's head.
Step2
Bring your legs together. You'll need to slide down from your cheerleading stunt to the floor. Keeping your body vertical allows the main base to continue to support you through the entire dismount.
Step3
Move your hands to your hips to steady your body as your feet make contact with the floor.
Step4
Drop your arms straight at your sides, like a solider, before continuing with the cheer or moving into other cheerleading stunts.
