Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup stearic acid
  • 4 tbsp. cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil
  • 2 cups distilled or filtered water
  • Microwaveable mixing bowl
  • 2 tsp. borax
  • 2 tbsp. grated castile bar soap, shaved or cut into small pieces
  • Electric mixer
  • Large glass cup or coffee mug
  1. Step 1

Place the stearic acid and olive oil and peppermint essential oil in a saucepan and heat it on low heat until the mixture melts. Remove it from the heat and set it aside.

  2. Step 2

Heat the distilled water in a microwaveable mixing bowl, and stir in the borax and grated castile soap.

  3. Step 3

Add the olive oil mixture to the warm water mixture, and beat it with an electric mixer or stick blender until it's smooth and creamy.

  4. Step 4

Spoon the olive oil shaving cream into a large cup or shaving mug, and use as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Any mild, unscented bar soap can be substituted for castile soap.
  • Make some olive oil shaving cream and put it in a decorative shaving mug. Add a shaving brush, and you have a great birthday or Christmas gift for the favorite man in your life. Olive oil shaving cream also makes an unusual and useful Father's Day gift.

on 8/24/2009 Other beneficial oils can be used if someone doesn't want to use Olive Oil. (I do not know if Olive Oil makes your hair grow faster or not. That I will have to research) I do know that Olive Oil is the closest oil to our own skin oils and properties. It is wonderful for our skin. Other oils to use for this recipe: Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil. All but the Castor is readily available. All of these oils have wonderful properties for our skin.

on 8/4/2009 Wow... I am speaking for everyone when I say NEVER use olive oil as a shaving cream. Just awhile back I wrote an article about olive oil to help make hair grow faster. Olive oil contains a nutrient called biotin, which naturally makes hair grow faster. Look it up. Don't shave with something that makes hair grow!
