How to Make a Comeback Like New Kids on the Block

New Kids on the Block, the original boy band (unless you count The Beatles, The Monkees or Menudo, who have all also been touted as the original), have sold over 70 million albums and cracked the Top 10 ten times and the Number 1 spot five times. When the group quietly disbanded in 1994, they seemed to take pop music with them, while grunge and alternative dominated the airwaves. But 14 years NKOTB found itself poised on the brink of a huge comeback with a new tour and album. Here is how they did it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Make sure you have every band member on board for the reunion. Unlike their counterparts, The Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block waited until they had every last member of the band ready and willing for their comeback–including Jonathan Knight, who left the music industry altogether after NKOTB for a career in real estate.
Step2
Indulge your fans with your classic hits. Some artists attempt to sever all ties with their professional past when they pursue a comeback. The New Kids, however, added a medley of their old hits to their concert tour agenda, in addition to their new 2008 single, "Summertime."
Step3
Get used to the spotlight again through separate solo pursuits. Each member of New Kids on the Block, with the exception of Jonathan Knight, pursued solo careers in entertainment after the band broke up in 1994.
Step4
Dust off your official website. The band's official website was updated to include information on the group's new endeavors.
Step5
Keep your fans updated on your comeback. The New Kids stay in direct contact with their fans through their blog, via their official site. The blog features personal posts from each member of the band.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't try to pretend you're still the same age. They might still be the New "Kids," but the band has made it clear that they're all grown up through a more mature image, which includes suits and ties.
