How to Avoid Airsoft Injuries

Airsoft guns shoot plastic pellets at 250 feet per second and faster. They're not considered a lethal weapon, but injuries to the eyes and body can result. Welts and bruising are the most common injuries, but blindness is possible if someone gets hit in the eye. For these reasons, children shouldn't play with Airsoft guns as if they were a simple toy. Follow these precautions when playing with Airsoft guns.

Instructions

    • 1

Teach children the proper way to handle a loaded gun. They should know to leave the safety on, keep the barrel pointed down and not touch the trigger until ready to shoot.

    • 2

Supervise your children at all times, especially if they are shooting at people. Make sure everyone is maintaining a safe distance. Being shot at close range can cause bruises and even penetrate the skin.

    • 3

Protect eyes with goggles or sunglasses, even when shooting at a target or stationary object because the pellets can ricochet right back at you. Goggles rated at least ANSI Z87.1 are the safest. A better alternative is to wear a mask, especially when using high-powered guns.

    • 4

Wear several layers of clothing or protect your body with a special vest. You can wear plastic pads over arms and legs and protect hands with leather gloves.

    • 5

Keep Airsoft guns and pellets locked away from young children.

    • 6

Remove pets from the vicinity when using Airsoft guns.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never look directly in the barrel of an Airsoft gun.

  • Never shoot someone with an Airsoft gun who doesn't want to be shot. It may be considered assault even if the person has no visible injuries.
