If you are looking for a fun craft to do with your kids, look no farther than your kitchen's utensil drawer. Wooden spoon puppets will keep your kids entertained not only while making them, but for hours while playing with them. Here is how to make wooden spoon puppets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Magic markers
  • Acrylic paints
  • Wooden spoons
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Scissors
  • Fabric scraps
  • Yarn
  • Ribbon
  • Craft glue
  • Fake fur
  1. Step 1

Use magic markers or acrylic paints to create your wooden spoon puppet faces. Get creative and give each character two expressions, by drawing a different face on each side of the spoon. You might keep it as simple as a smile on one side and a frown on the other, or let your imagination run wild for a greater array of emotion in your puppet theater.

  2. Step 2

Double a pipe cleaner and twist it together gently to make one thick pipe cleaner. Center the pipe cleaner around the handle of the wooden spoon and then twist the ends together. Spread open the ends to create your puppet arms.

  3. Step 3

Cut a long rectangular piece of fabric for male puppets, creating an old fashioned men's robe. For male puppets, double the fabric lengthwise and cut a small square on the top fold. Slip the spoon handle through the hole, threading the pipe cleaner arms through the hole as well. Adjust the arms and then tie a "belt" around the waist of your puppet with a piece of yarn.

  4. Step 4

Make your female puppet's dress by cutting a circle of fabric and then clipping a hole in the center. Slip the handle through the hole, pushing the pipe cleaner arms all the way up to the base of the spoon, and then tying a pretty bow with ribbon around the waist.

  5. Step 5

Finish your wooden spoon puppets by gluing yarn, fake fur or curling ribbon to the upper edge of the spoon as hair.
