How to Make a BLT Sandwich

During the summer months when tomatoes are fresh, ripe and plentiful, BLT sandwiches grace the lunch and dinner plates of many diners. Follow these simple steps, using Thousand Island dressing and pumpernickel bread, to make a BLT sandwich with a twist.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 slices pumpernickel bread
  • Thousand Island dressing
  • 2 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices of crisp, cooked bacon
  • 2 slices tomato
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Step 1

    Toast the two slices of pumpernickel bread using a toaster or a toaster oven.

  2. Step 2

    Spread the Thousand Island dressing on one side of each of the toasted pumpernickel bread slices.

  3. Step 3

    Place a lettuce leaf over the Thousand Island dressing on one of the bread slices.

  4. Step 4

    Arrange the four bacon slices over the lettuce leaf.

  5. Step 5

    Set the two slices of tomato on the bacon.

  6. Step 6

    Sprinkle the tomato slices with salt and pepper as desired.

  7. Step 7

    Cover the tomato slices with the remaining lettuce leaf.

  8. Step 8

    Close the sandwich using the other slice of pumpernickel bread, with the dressing side down.

  9. Step 9

    Serve your BLT sandwich with potato chips and enjoy as a light lunch or dinner.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may use any kind of lettuce in this BLT sandwich. Good lettuce choices include romaine, iceberg, green leaf, red leaf or bibb.
  • Use turkey bacon for a lower fat alternative in this sandwich.
  • Cook the bacon by frying it in a pan, baking it in the oven or by microwaving it. You can also purchase pre-cooked bacon slices from a grocery store.
  • Add sliced turkey or ham to this BLT to make an easy and satisfying club sandwich.
