One easy way to make a beautiful homemade card is to add beads to the cover for a unique 3-D effect. The beading technique can either be sewn or glued. Follow these steps to make a beaded card.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Sewn Beaded Card

  1. Step 1

Draw a design on the back of the colored card stock. The design should be something easy to create with beads, such as a star or a snowflake.

  2. Step 2

Cut a 3-foot piece of thread. Insert one end of the thread through the needle eye and tie the two ends together. Allow the needle to drop to the middle of the thread.

  3. Step 3

Insert the needle through the back of the card, starting in the middle of the design. Slip a bead on the needle. Put the needle down through the front of the card, following the pattern of the design. Repeat this step following the outline of the design.

  4. Step 4

Complete one arm of the star or snowflake at a time. Tie off or tape the end of the thread on the back of the card. Continue to stitch the design until all arms are completed.

  5. Step 5

Trim the edges of the colored card stock with decorative scissors. Make sure the colored card stock is smaller than the folded card blank. It should fit in the middle of the card blank, with a nice border around the edge created by the card blank.

  6. Step 6

Glue the colored cardstock onto the card blank.

  7. Glued Beaded Card

  8. Step 1

Stamp a design on the front of the folded card blank.

  9. Step 2

Run the double-sided tape around the outside of the card, leaving a 1/4-inch border between the tape edge and the edge of the card.

  10. Step 3

Sprinkle the seed beads carefully over the double-sided tape. Lightly tap the beads so they adhere to the tape. Sprinkle more beads on the tape until the tape is completely covered.

  11. Step 4

Pick up the card and lightly tap the edge of the card on the table to dislodge any loose beads. Let the card rest overnight to ensure the adhesive forms a good bond with the beads.
