1
Protect your hair by not spiking it every day. Your hair and scalp need a break from harsh styling products, so try to let your hair down at least as often as you spike it up.

2
Pamper your hair, and select a shampoo for chemically treated, fine hair that offers the most conditioning. Always use a conditioner, as well, to both reverse and prevent damage.

Select styling products depending on your budget and what works for you. What some people like, others don't. Common products to keep liberty spikes high and sharp include white craft glue, styling glues, egg whites, hairspray and combinations of all of the above. Most people go through a period of trial and error before they find what works for them.

Spike your hair by dividing it into as many sections as you would like spikes and clip each section so that it is separate from the rest. Pull up the sections one at a time, working from front to back. Apply your chosen styling product from the roots, working to the tips, and then hold the spike in place as you use a blow dryer to cure the product. As a general rule, it is best to work on dry hair.

5
Wash out your liberty spikes carefully by first thoroughly soaking your hair in warm water. Place generous amounts of baking soda in your hands and massage it into your hair from root to tip to help remove the products. Rinse the baking soda out with warm water, and repeat before finishing with your regular shampoo and conditioner.

Tips & Warnings
White craft glue and styling glues are by far the best products for spiking your hair. Craft glue is less expensive, but is more harmful on your hair, so if you plan on spiking your hair more than once a week, splurge on the styling glue. Additionally, for those with heavy, thick hair, these glues are your best bet.
If you have light, thin hair, egg whites and a bit of hairspray are most likely all you need to get the perfect spikes. Egg whites will not damage your hair, if fact, they will leave it silky soft.
If you are unsure which product is best for your, try experimenting with one or a mixture of styling products on a single lock of hair. Leave the product in all day and see if it holds its shape, how will it rinses out and what effect it has on your particular hair.
