Having an organized way of holding your art supplies means you always know where everything is. Making a toolbox just for your art supplies makes sense and only takes a few minutes. If you dabble in different types of art, make a dedicated toolbox for each.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3/8-inch plywood bottom panel, 11.75 inches by 5.75 inches
  • Two 3/8-inch plywood sides panels, 11.75 inches by 2.75 inches
  • Two 2.5-inch plywood end pieces, 5 inches by 5.75 inches
  • 3/4-inch dowel rod, 11.75 inches long
  • Jigsaw
  • Drill with 3/4-inch bit
  • Hammer
  • 4D finish nails
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  1. Step 1

Drill a 3/8-inch hole 1 inch from the top of each end piece. Use a jigsaw to create a design in the end pieces if desired, or begin to taper the top, starting 3 inches from the base for that classic look.

  2. Step 2

Organize the wooden frame of the art toolbox and assemble the pieces using glue and nails through the bottom and into the sides. Continue securing the edges vertically, using glue and nails until the frame is solidly in place.

  3. Step 3

Sand the corners until each edge is smooth. Place a ¾ inch dowel through the holes in the edge pieces. Glue the handle in place when the edges are flush. Drive two nails through the top and into the dowel to ensure the handle is secure.

  4. Step 4

Decorate your art toolbox with paint, decals or anything that fits your personality. If you use multiple toolboxes, decorate them distinctly for easy identification.

  5. Step 5

Use plastic containers or premade craft boxes to create cubbies along the bottom to hold small supplies. Nail leather or cloth pockets to the outside of the toolbox to hold scissors and knives safely away from hands when searching for tools.
