The hip throw is a handy technique to use in Jiu-Jitsu when someone grabs you and intends to throw you down. All you need to do is position your hip before your opponent can think to do so.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand before your opponent and place your right hand on your opponent's left shoulder, and your other hand just below your opponent's right arm. Your opponent will do the same.

  2. Step 2

Slip your right hand underneath your opponent's left arm, and reach around your opponent's back as you do a hip throw.

  3. Step 3

Turn a little to the left and bring your hip up against your opponent, below his center of gravity.

  4. Step 4

Place your right foot forward and your left foot about a shoulder's width back. Drape your opponent across you hip, lift up with your right arm, and throw you opponent to the floor.

  5. Step 5

Practice the hip throw in Jiu-Jitsu over and over so that you and your opponent are comfortable both with throwing and landing.
