How to Challenge a Word in Scrabble

Scrabble is a word game where players form words out of individual letter tiles. Each word has to be connected with words in play on the board by at least one letter. It is possible to challenge a word if you feel that is an unacceptable word or it is misspelled. Read on to learn how to challenge a word in Scrabble.

      Familiarize yourself with the words in the dictionary that is used when you play Scrabble. Only words found in the dictionary can be successfully challenged. This will also help you to become familiar with the little know words, such a qua, that can add up to points for you.

      Make sure that the word you want to challenge is either spelled incorrectly or is considered an unacceptable word according to the game directions. Once you have decided that the word is wrong, check again.

      Understand that you can only challenge a word on the play immediately after the word was put on the board. This means that you have to challenge the word before the next word is put down.

      Be prepared to lose a turn and points if you challenged a word that is actually an allowed word that is spelled correctly. Because of this, it may be in your best interest to refrain from challenging a word if the point value is very low and you are unsure if the challenge will turn out in your favor.

      Learn from your challenges. Remember all of the words that were challenged so that you can use the allowable words in another game. In addition you can stay away from the successfully challenged words.
