1
Know whether you have to price the items. Since many department stores have scanners, you may not need to price the items before stocking the shelves. However, many department stores still have clothing that have to have price tags on them. Part of your job in stocking the shelves may be to put price tags on the clothing. Alternatively, you may need to put the price on the shelves.

2
Find where the items go in the department store. If you have men's clothes, you need to find the men's department and put the clothes on the shelves or rack where they belong. You will want to keep men's and boy's clothes in their own sections.

3
Gather the boxes that have the stock you need to put on the shelves. Usually a handcart or shopping cart is your best bet for getting the boxes from the storeroom to the shelves.
-
4
Open the boxes and check to see if price tags are on the items. If they aren't, find the price tags for the item you are stocking and attach them to the clothing. After pricing them start putting the items on the shelf or hanging them on the rack.

5
Select other items to stock. Sometimes you will have items such as books or candy that need replacing. Books change often and you may need to put the new stock out and take the old stock away. Candy is another item you need to replace, not just restock.
