Buttons add a nice decorative touch to your valance and with the hundreds of types of buttons from which to choose, the most difficult part is deciding up which buttons go with your valance perfectly. Here are a few tips to sew buttons to a curtain valance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sewing needle
  • Matching colored thread
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Lay the curtain valance on a flat surface. You need to make sure the valance is lying on a flat surface to be sure that the placement and alignment of the buttons is correct.

  2. Step 2

Place the buttons in position. Space the buttons evenly on the valance where you want to be.

  3. Step 3

Sew on the first button. Hold the button in place while you run the needle and thread through the back of the fabric. Once you come through the front, put the button through the needle via the loop on the back or the buttonholes. Once the button is secure, tie and cut the thread.

  4. Step 4

Position the next button. Again, hold the button in place while running the needle through the back of the fabric. Tie and cut the thread off when the button is secure.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Step 3 and Step 4. Continue repeating these steps until all the buttons are sewn on the curtain valance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make a small dot in the fabric with a pen if you need a little extra guidance. Place the button on the fabric, take a ballpoint pen and make a small dot through the buttonholes. If you have a loop ended button, lift the button up slightly and make a small dot. This helps to ensure the buttons are sewn in the correct place on the valance.
  • Always make a couple of passes with the needle and thread. Do this to make sure the buttons don't fall off or hang loose when you hang your curtain valance.
