Facial expressions can be the most daunting challenge when working with character animation software. They can make the difference between a character in motion and a truly life-like figure. Poser's new Face Room allows figure animators to morph facial expressions with ease. Read on to learn how to paint in Face Room in Poser software.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Launch your Poser application. You will see a row of tabs at the top of the window indicating the different editing rooms. Click on "Face." You will jump to a new window with a Face Sculpting window and a window with the Face Shaping (or morphing) tool.

  2. Step 2

Check the "Both" option under "Use Morphs:" in the "Face Shaping" tool. This allows you to access Poser's morphing libraries for both symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes to create the most realistic effects.

  3. Step 3

Position the face model to the area of the face you want to morph. Move the head on a horizontal or vertical axis or rotate it.

  4. Step 4

Click on the area of the face you want to morph. A small green dot, or pin, will appear at that location. Drag the pin to paint the new shape (notice that you aren't morphing just that area, Poser also morphs corresponding facial muscles). You can also open the facial morphs settings for that feature (chin, cheekbone, brow) and use the settings dials to create the morph shape.

  5. Step 5

Click the "Clear Morphs" button if you need to erase your morphs and start over. Click "Clear Pins" if you want to see the face without the pin.

  6. Step 6

Continue to add pins and morph the facial features until you have a face and expression you like. When you're finished click the "Apply to Figure" button.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure a figure is open in the preview window or you won't be able to see command buttons or edit effects.
  • You must have the proper texture file loaded from your texture libraries, or you won't be able to render or preview your new facial features.
