Christmas dinner is a time for the whole family to get together for a nice meal and enjoy each other's company. Setting the dinner table beforehand and having it ready for dinner saves the hostess precious time and energy. Know where to set every plate, knife and glass to save even more time. These tips will help you to place glasses for Christmas dinner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Variety of glasses, goblets and champagne flutes
  • Coffee cups and saucers
  1. Step 1

Decide exactly what drinks you will serve with the dinner. This helps you narrow down what type of glassware you need for the table. Keep in mind the type of glassware you have available and use matching sets or colors whenever possible.

  2. Step 2

Pick a large dinner glass for the water glass. This gives everyone plenty of water so the hostess isn't filling up the water glasses constantly and gives the guest plenty of water to clear their palate between courses.

  3. Step 3

Choose large goblets for soft drinks, tea or wine. If you serve a different wine with each courses, each person will need a glass for each wine.

  4. Step 4

Use champagne flutes for toasts if champagne is available as a dinner drink. The champagne flute for each guest needs to match the rest of the glassware.

  5. Step 5

Place the glasses at the top right side of each setting. Start with the water glass and place the goblet beside it, with the champagne flute behind the other glasses.

  6. Step 6

Bring out the coffee cups and saucers with the dessert course.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remove glasses that will not be used again after each course ends.
  • Pour the drinks after everyone is seated. The exception to this rule is water. Feel free to pour the water into the water glasses before everyone is in their seat.
