Once you decide to make a button, you'll need a design. The design of the button draws the attention of others and gets them to notice it--and you--so you want something eye-catching. Then it's simply a matter of finishing off your drawing so you can turn your sketch into a finished button. Read on to learn how to finish your button drawing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen or pencil
  • Background paper
  1. Step 1

Fold the paper in half lengthwise and then in half again on the short side so that you have two intersecting lines that divide your paper into four separate sections. These lines will help you see the center of your button.

  2. Step 2

Measure the size of your button and carry those dimensions over to your background paper. You'll want your finished design to be the same size as the button so that the entire image will fit.

  3. Step 3

Sketch out the skeleton or basic pattern of your design onto the paper. If you plan on using this design again in the future, you might find it helpful to make copies of the design.

  4. Step 4

Create a more intricate pattern by deepening the lines and adding more details to the interior of the sketch. You can make the design as simple or intricate as you like.

  5. Step 5

Add more to the design on the edges of the drawing or leave it as it is. Once again this depends on your personal preference.

  6. Step 6

Look at your overall design to see if you're happy with the drawing how it is. If you want to add more to the sketch you can, or you can use the drawing to complete your button.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using a pencil to sketch out your design can save you from making a big mistake. While you can't erase pen, you can erase pencil. Draw out your design in pencil and cover it with pen later.
