Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn the rules of Whist. This sounds like a simple task, but you have to start somewhere. The best place to learn is from another person with a great deal of playing experience. However, if no one is available, there are several websites and books that will lay the rules out for you. You may purchase books on becoming an expert Whist player at the Sharks, Inc., website listed in the Resources section.

  2. Step 2

Find websites that let you play Whist online. This is a great way to get a lot of practice. There are games being played all around the world at any hour of the day. Consider this your boot camp, as you will lose a lot of games. But hopefully you learn a great deal in the process.

  3. Step 3

Line up a partner you can play games in person with. The only way to become an expert Whist player is to have a strong relationship with a Whist partner. Play together and understand one another's tendencies. Great players have an unspoken way of communicating while playing.

  4. Step 4

Read books about playing Whist. While there are not a lot of materials available, hopefully once you develop a strong sense of the game, you will need to further enhance your understanding of tricks and strategies. These books are the best method to do that.

  5. Step 5

Practice constantly. Studying will help you, but the only surefire way to become an expert is to play countless games of Whist.
