You've found a great apartment complex or building and are ready to move forward. Here's how to apply for the apartment you want.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Ask for an application for the actual apartment you will be renting (not a model).
Step2
Fill it out according to the instructions given.
Step3
Offer a reasonable deposit on your application - around $50 to $75, with the rest of the total due at the time you sign the lease.
Step4
Wait for your application to be approved. Don't sign any other applications in the meantime.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make copies of all documents.
  • Look around before you fill out an application. Avoid taking the first place you see, and don't take a place if you have any doubts.
  • A small fee (around $30 or so) may be requested to do a credit check. Beware if it is much more.
  • Do not put a stop-payment on the application deposit check unless you can prove fraud or have agreed in writing with the agent to cancel.
  • Never pay with cash.
