Step 1
Buy a model muscle car. Some good model choices for this are Chevelles, Novas and Camaros. They are all easy to modify and are easy to find at all hobby shops and most larger retailers.
-
Step 2
Remove the muscle car body and increase the size of the fender openings with a Dremel tool with a sanding drum. Dremel tools can be found at most hardware stores and the tool or crafts section of larger retailers. Find some tires of a NASCAR-style model car. Measure them against the body of the muscle car to make sure they are going to fit the chassis and against the new fender openings you made.

Step 3
Use styrene tubing to make a roll bar for the interior of the model stock car. Assemble the interior with a roll bar, adding styrene tubing found at hobby and hardware stores. The roll bar is not necessary, but a great touch towards authenticity of the vintage model stock bar.

Step 4
Install the important elements of the car, such as the engine and wheels. Complete all the essential parts before doing the cosmetics work on the exterior of the car. The engine will likely come in a few different parts, you will need to glue these parts together according to the model instructions, as each car model can be slightly different. Put the tires on the wheels and affix them to the axles. This chassis will then go under the body.

Step 5
Pick your favorite driver and paint the car to coincide with the driver you prefer or the car you like best. Adhere race numbers to the dry paint and create any other details the car has. Use aluminum duct tape or sheet metal and cover the headlights, tail lights and all other lights. The only glass that should be in the car is the front windshield.
