  1. Step 1

    Go to your local bookstore or online, to purchase the book "The Best Life Diet" by Bob Greene. Begin reading the introduction and Phase One. The diet consists of three phases. Phase One lasts four weeks, or until you are ready to move to Phase Two.

  2. Step 2

    Register online at www.thebestlife.com for support and help on sticking to the plan. The website will help you keep track of what you eat at each meal. It also provides daily meal plans, food log and journal.

  3. Step 3

    Print the weekly shopping list from the website, and go buy healthy foods from the grocery store. It will be easier to stick to the plan if you have the healthy foods at home.

  4. Step 4

    Get active by wearing a pedometer or starting a walking program. The first phase of this diet is all about getting yourself on a routine for eating and getting more active. The website provides information on getting fit and tips for being more active. Your goal is to advance a fitness level.

  5. Step 5

    During Phase One, make sure to eat 3 meals and a snack or two. Try to include a breakfast from the website or from the book. Restrain from drinking alcohol or smoking.
