For centuries, mothers and fathers have used wraps to "wear" their infants and toddlers close to their bodies, although the practice is more recent in the United States. One such product, the Maya wrap sling, is increasingly popular due to its versatility, style and comfortable fit. There are certain things to keep in mind when you buy a Maya wrap sling.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Compare and contrast the types of Maya slings. There are four: the Lightly Padded Sling, the MamaBaby Sling, the Maya Tie and the Doll Sling. The Lightly Padded Sling bears the child's weight over the parent's shoulder, allowing the baby to sit forward-facing, on the parent's hip or nested below chest level. The smaller MamaBaby sling allows forward or rear-facing positions and is unpadded (it also doubles as a nursing cover). The Maya Tie fastens across both shoulders and around the back and is perfect for carrying older, larger children backpack-style. The Doll Sling allows children to carry around their "babies" just as they see Mommy and Daddy carrying their newborn siblings.

  2. Step 2

Choose a color and type of fabric for your Maya sling. The Maya Tie and Doll Slings come in twenty-one shades and are made of cotton. The MamaBaby sling is also made of cotton and comes in four colors. The Lightly Padded Sling is fashioned of hand-loomed breathable fabric and has twenty-two shades from which to choose.

  3. Step 3

Pick a sling size. The Lightly Padded Sling comes in four sizes: small, medium, large and extra large. The MamaBaby sling comes in two sizes: extra small/small and medium/large. The Maya Tie sling is available in sizes medium and large.

  4. Step 4

Know the slings' weight and age limits. Most parents stop using the Maya slings when their children reach 30 pounds or are around 3 years old.

  5. Step 5

Purchase your Maya wrap sling. You may order online directly from the Maya website or visit a local retailer. The Maya website offers a listing of vendors in your area that carry the Maya slings.
