Computer keyboards wear out over time, usually before the computer calls it quits. There is no reason to throw your old keyboard out if you find a new use for it. Recycle an old keyboard circuit sheet into a wallet for yourself or a friend.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Old computer keyboard
  • Screwdriver
  • Marker
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Craft knife or scissors
  • Clear packing tape

Step1
Disassemble the old keyboard with a screwdriver. Remove screws on the bottom of the computer keyboard. Remove the protective metal sheet with the screws.
Step2
Find the circuit sheet. This sheet is a flexible, thick plastic with grey or green lines running through it. These sheets do not have anything attached to them. Slide the circuit sheet out of the keyboard and lay it on a hard, flat surface.
Step3
Measure and mark the circuit sheet with four 4-by-3-inch squares and three 3-by-3-inch squares.
Step4
Cut out the squares you drew on the computer keyboard circuit sheet.
Step5
Tape two of the 4-by-3-inch squares together along their 3-inch sides. Leave about 1/4 to 1/8 inch between the pieces to act as a hinge. Wrap the tape around the pieces twice. Repeat this step for the other two 4-by-3-inch pieces.
Step6
Lay two of the taped sets from Step 5 on the table. Line up the other set on top of it. Tape the sides and bottom together to make a basic wallet shape.
Step7
Put the 3-by-3-inch pieces inside the wallet to make the card holders. Place them in spots that make sense to you. Tape the side and bottom edges together. This leaves the top open to slide cards in and out of the wallet.
Step8
Inspect the wallet and add tape to any edges that need reinforcement.
