Treat your wedding guests to a deliciously organic reception meal that will please both you and your soon-to-be spouse--as well as the many local farmers, bakers and crafters who you will be supporting. Planning an organic reception menu can be fun and may even help simplify what can be an overwhelming task for many brides.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose local whenever you can, from produce to baked goods and everything in between. When you support local producers, you keep business in your community and save yourself lots of green.

  2. Step 2

Invite guests to a cocktail hour in between the ceremony and reception and serve organic drinks. Lemongrass ginger cosmos are a great idea-infuse vodka with lemongrass stalks and ginger root and refrigerate overnight. Combine with Triple Sec, organic cranberry juice and organic lime juice and serve on the rocks.

  3. Step 3

Organic does not mean vegetarian. Free-range chicken and beef are not only eco-friendly, but they taste wonderful. Wild salmon and white fish such as tilapia are smart seafood choices.

  4. Step 4

Toast to the night with organic wines, which are widely available at your local grocery store. Go a step further and order from a locally owned liquor store or the winery itself. When you order by the case, you typically receive a 10% discount. Be sure to clear this with your reception venue first-some have policies that prohibit outside food or beverages.

  5. Step 5

Serve organic wedding cake. The words "organic wedding cake" probably don't make you salivate, but erase any thoughts of soy frosting or Eggbeater batter. Find a baker who supports local farmers markets by using organic ingredients, like eggs, butter, flour and berries.

  6. Step 6

Serve fair-trade coffee after dinner or send your guests home with a small serving of fair-trade coffee beans.
