The meat from guinea fowl is becoming popular as a food that is similar to chicken. Although guinea fowl is a game bird, it's tasty and low in calories. Use these tips to feed guinea fowl the food that will help them grow large and healthy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Let guinea fowl eat insects. Guinea fowl are similar to chickens but are wilder so they eat insects that are natural to their habitat. Letting them eat insects also reduces the bug population in your area.

  2. Step 2

Feed them game feed with added protein. Buy laying feed if you want your guinea fowl to lay eggs, but buy regular feed if you don't want any offspring.

  3. Step 3

Use hen scratch to feed your guinea fowl. Throw it so it scatters across the ground. You can also buy chicken mash which contains powder, or you can also buy compressed powder, which are called pellets. These can also be crumbled up and fed to the guinea fowl.

  4. Step 4

Feed guinea fowl once or twice a day. Adult guineas need little care and will thrive on regular feeding daily.

  5. Step 5

Serve organic feed if you want your guinea fowl free of pesticides and fertilizers. Buy from a reputable company to make sure your feed is healthy and does not contain animal by-products.

  6. Step 6

Try vegetables that chickens eat like corn, tomatoes and apples. Some may like dandelions as well.

  7. Step 7

Talk to your vet about medicated feed for guinea fowl. You may want to add medicated feed to protect your birds from disease.

Tips & Warnings
  • Provide guinea fowl with clean fresh water at all times so they don't become dehydrated.
