Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Use nutritionally enhanced bird feed that has been developed specifically for pheasants. Or buy powdered vitamins that you can add to your regular bird feed.
Step2
Check the levels of protein before purchasing. Pheasants need high protein to maintain their health. Feed comes as grains, pellets or mash and any of those will work.
Step3
Give feed with 30 percent protein to chicks; use feed with 19 percent protein for pre-adult pheasants and give between 12 percent and 20 percent to adult birds depending on whether or not they are breeding. Breeding birds need the higher percentage.
Step4
Add hard-boiled eggs to increase the protein levels of regular feed. Add grit to help with the digestive system of the pheasants.
Step5
Let them have peanuts or meal worms as treats. Serve them meal worms that are still alive or add live crickets to the dish--they enjoy live treats.
Step6
Use different types of grain like corn, wheat, oats and rye. You can also add cracked corn to the mix. Some types of birds like peacock pheasants need fruits and vegetables in their diet. You can try adding a variety of each.
Step7
Serve your pheasants food each day by placing the food in a trough or by using a feeding machine that allows food to drop into a trough below.
