Block grants are grants given by the federal government to fund various programs. There are grants that pay for home improvements, but since eligibility requirements vary from state to state, you're going to need to do some research. Then, if you meet whatever eligibility requirements there are, you can get whatever home improvements you need. Soon you can have the money to fix up your home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the official HUD (Housing and Urban Development) website and look at the information under "Home Improvements." There you can find information about "Federal Loan Programs," "Community Based Programs" and "Consumer Information." There is also a link that helps you find information on a state-by-state basis.

  2. Step 2

Visit the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) website to find out information about home improvement grants. There you can find out all the information you need about applying for USDA home improvement grants.

  3. Step 3

Contact your local housing agency to find out about grant programs in your area. You could be required to receive a home inspection and an interview as part of their application process, since it is up to the inspector to decide if your home is in need of repair for health or safety reasons.

Tips & Warnings
  • Block grants are for those who need home improvements based on health and safety reasons and for those who can't afford to have the work done without government assistance.
  • Be careful of grant scams. This is where research comes in. If you find information about a grant that sounds too good to be true, it may very well be. So do some research on the grant to find out before you sign anything.
