Things You'll Need:
- Microfiber dust mop
- Scrub mop
- Cleaner/polisher fluid for parquet floors
- #0000 steel wool
- Apple cider vinegar
-
Step 1
Keep dust off the floor. Clean your parquet floors every day or every other day with a microfiber dust mop. Rather than just moving the dust and dirt particles around, this type of mop traps the dirt in its fibers and removes it.
-
Step 2
Set a throw rug near each entrance into the room with the parquet floors. Let the rug trap most of the dirt from people's shoes as they enter the room.
-
Step 3
Remember to clean and wash the throw rug regularly. If you don't, the accumulated dirt can sift through the rug and onto the parquet floor to scratch it.
-
Step 4
Encourage people to take their shoes off when they walk on the parquet floors to avoid dirt and scuff marks. Keep clean shoes near the entryway so they can change into clean shoes easily.
-
Step 5
Use a cleaner/washer solution designed to clean parquet floors. Use only enough cleaning solution to do the job and only use enough rinse water to get the solution back off the floor. Follow the manufacturer's directions to use the correct mop for this task.
-
Step 6
Add a touch of apple cider vinegar to your rinse water. This helps remove any film that may develop on the wood.
-
Step 7
Remove scuffmarks with #0000 steel wool and liquid cleaner. Use a light touch and don't rub any more than you have to.
