Visual Basic (VB) is a Microsoft development environment and programming language used to create web, Windows and Microsoft Office applications. Visual Basic 6 is a later version of the Visual Basic language and very popular among programmers. Although it has been replaced with the Visual Basic.Net, there are many resources available to help you get started with Visual Basic 6.

  1. Step 1

    Get a copy of Visual Basic 6 or the current version of Visual Studio. Download the free express edition or the more powerful Visual Studio from Microsoft. Try it out in Micosoft Developer Network Virtual Labs before you install it.

  2. Step 2

    Review learning plans from the Microsoft Developer Network to plan your studies and find resources for each step.

  3. Step 3

    Read books or articles about general programming to get an understanding of code, expressions, strings, variables and other programming lingo. Get an understanding of the .net framework.

  4. Step 4

    Join a forum for Visual Basic beginners to get answers to questions and sget help solving problems.

  5. Step 5

    Try some free online tutorials before committing to books or classes. You can get an idea of the skills you need to develop and the difficulty of learning the VB language.
