How to Have a Fun Pillow Fight

The pillow fight's a classic way to have fun while taking out some mild aggression on your friends. They're usually safe enough for children, but they can occasionally get out of hand. Before you get involved in your own pillow fight, remember the following steps. They'll keep you and your friends safe and maximize the amount of feather-flying fun you can have.

Instructions

    • 1

Make space in your room for the fight. Pack any lamps, souvenirs, picture frames and expensive electronics away where they won't get hit by an errant swing.

    • 2

Use the softest pillows you can find. Unless you plan on having an extremely intense battle, stay away from heavy down and memory foam pillows. Stick with pillows that are light and cushiony.

    • 3

Decide on either a one- or two-handed swinging technique. Two-handed strokes give your more control and finesse, but one-handed strokes provide the most acceleration and power.

    • 4

Establish a safe-word before getting started. Choose a word like "pickles" or "fascism" that has nothing to do with pillow fighting, that way a player can stop the action without getting pummeled.

    • 5

Bring some drinks and snacks into the room before getting started. Pillow fighting's hard work, and you'll want to reward yourself for a particularly good round with some tasty refreshments.

Tips & Warnings

  • Break your pillow fight into timed rounds. Having time to rest between rounds lets you plan you attacking strategy and catch your breath.

  • Don't swing too aggressively for other players' heads. Although it may be fun to whack someone in the face, it can really be dangerous, especially when you're fighting with zippered pillows.
