1
Have a list of keywords ready. Many things posted on web search engines (including this article) contain a list of associated keywords. So, say you're looking up a pitcher's ERA. A list of keywords might be baseball, statistic(s), pitcher and ERA. Articles are arranged by how many of those keywords appear in the article. The more keywords you tag, the closer the article will be to the top of the results list.
-
2
Be specific in your search. But be cautious not to be wordy. In other words, be as specific and succinct as possible. Stick to your keywords whenever possible.

3
Make good use of the briefs on each link to help you filter through the search results more efficiently. Search engines increasingly have a lot of extraneous links lying around. They want you to visit every link, but doing so will make your search go very slow. Quickly skim through the description of each page and select only the results that match your search.

4
Narrow your search to make the results more accurate. Type more exact keywords to fit exactly what you seek. Take a moment or two to brainstorm good keywords.
-
5
Click the advanced search option if your search engine offers it. This feature often allows you to search specific websites, dates, exact phrases and words that can produce more accurate results.
