Instructions
  1. Step 1

Compare the different health insurance plans offered through your employer. Many employers offer different programs with different benefits and costs. Compare the plan descriptions to your healthcare needs to find the best deal.

  2. Step 2

Look at the health insurance programs your spouse's company offers. Every company gets different prices, often from the same insurance companies. The prices are based on several factors, including the number of insured, age and overall health of a company. It may be cheaper to be insured under your spouse's program.

  3. Step 3

Search for quotes online. Many companies offer different costs for online customers and a few companies are only sold online. There are even a few companies that will help you compare deals, much like a travel website does with flights.

  4. Step 4

Phone your current insurer and negotiate a deal. If you can provide an argument why your rates should be lower, it is possible that the company will oblige. Health insurance is a speculative business and the prices are always in flux.

  5. Step 5

Look into organizations that specialize in helping people find low-cost healthcare. Organizations like AARP and Woodmen of the World exist solely to help people like you find the best deal on health insurance. Some organizations specialize in hard-to-insure customers while other simply want to help.
