There are a thousand benefits to living in a small town but sometimes it feels like there is nothing to do. This isn't usually the case as small towns have a strong sense of community and it is just a matter of knowing where to look. Look below for a few ways to find something to do in a small town.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Read the local paper and mark upcoming activities on your home calendar. Most small towns publish a local newspaper that will have both upcoming events, meetings, and notices of things to do. Be sure to check throughout the paper as some events will as advertising rather than as an article or public notice.
Step2
Look at notice boards around town to find things to do. Small towns have an abundance of notice boards where locals hang want ads and event posters. Check out the bank, restaurants, library, town hall and local gym for notice boards.
Step3
Talk to people in your town to find out what they do. There may be a lot of things going on that you simply don't know about and aren't really advertised such as social clubs meetings that have remained unchanged over the years. Converse with some of the older citizens to see what associations and socials clubs operate in your town.
Step4
Visit the local library and participate in their scheduled activities. Small town libraries are a hive of activity ranging from reading clubs and groups to film showings and lectures. Put a call into the local librarian to get the events schedule.
Step5
Go to local points of interest and museums. Although you may have visited them in your youth, collections change and revisiting your town's past is a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.
Step6
Telephone the local bars, restaurants and hotels to see if they have any upcoming events. In a small town, these places often host bands, karaoke nights, theme nights and contests and are worth checking out when you have a gap in your schedule.
Step7
Make a new activity, club or event in your town. When your small town lacks that thing that interests you most, take the initiative and start your own event. When there's nothing to do make something to do.
