1. Ask a friend to ask a friend to ask the boy if he likes you. Try to leave yourself at least three steps away so he doesn't know you are the one who is inquiring. A boy may be more honest when he doesn't know that you will be getting the answer too.

2. Hold a party for Halloween or over the Christmas holidays and invite the boy in question. If he shows up with a date, then that may signal that he has no intentions toward you. If he shows up alone, that could mean he wants to spend time with you.

3. Talk about something silly that you did recently when you are in a group of people with him. If he carries the joke further and continues to tease you about it all the time, he may very well like you. People typically don't even bother with those they don't like and save their teasing for those they like.

4. Watch for him at events or places that you frequent. If you've never seen him at your tennis matches and suddenly he is in the bleachers whenever you are playing, then he likes you. If he suddenly joins the debate team of which you are a member, it could mean he is looking for ways to get closer to you and to build some common interests before he approaches you.
