Walk in standing straight, looking (if not feeling) confident with a smile on your face. If you smile the interviewer will probably smile too and both of you should be just a little more at ease. Remember, its nerve wracking to interview as well as be interviewed.

Tell the truth about your work experience, work habits and work preferences. People think padding out their resumes with a few white lies or inflating the sort of employee they will be is beneficial. The problem with lying in an interview is that if you do get the job and don't live up to your own explained potential, your new employer will feel mistrustful of you.

Fight nerves by stating that you are nervous. Admitting the anxiety helps diffuse its power and allows you to get on with the rest of an interview.

      • 4

Be prepared for any question by doing your homework. A good interviewee researches the company thoroughly before an interview. That way you don't have to be worried about not knowing something obvious like how big the company is or the different avenues of its business. Confidence comes with preparedness.

Laugh often and laugh genuinely in your interview. Being nervous distorts the interviewer's perception of you. If you are laughing, at least they'll know you will be fun to work with.

      • 6

Ask questions throughout the interview process to help calm your nerves and keep the conversation flowing. Have a few questions in mind before you go and create some as a response to information given during the interview.

      • 7

Leave the best impression that you can under the circumstances. Make eye contact and give firm handshakes as you exit the interview. Be happy knowing you did your very best.
