Step 1
Choose a date and time when all of your friends are free to get together. Instruct everyone to rid their closets, drawers and jewelry boxes of items that they rarely wear or that no longer fit. You may also want to remind them to weed out any items that someone in the group gave them as a gift to avoid hurt feelings.
-
Step 2
Swap accessories like scarves, hats, bathrobes, jewelry and sunglasses if some of your sizes vary tremendously.
-
Step 3
Invite a local seamstress to attend the party to offer consultations about what she can and cannot alter. If one of your friends finds a dress she likes that's a couple of sizes too large, for example, the seamstress should also be prepared to give her a quote for alterations.
-
Step 4
Discuss alternate uses for some of the clothing available for a swap. If one of the girls wears a much smaller size than everyone else, you can still use her items as fabric for handbags, quilts or even chair covers if she says it's okay. You can even consider hosting a follow-up party where you can all work on crafts with some of the garments.

Step 5
Agree upon a charity where you can donate the swap items that no one claims. Consider local women's or disaster relief shelters or children's hospitals that sell used clothing at stores to generate funds.
