How to Confront a Backstabber

When your best friend says something that cuts you deep, or you hear that a close friend at the gym was making fun of you, you may be at a loss as to what to do. Take a deep breath and realize that you must confront a backstabber in order to clear the air and save face.

Instructions

    • 1

Get all of the facts, first. Instead of going off on a heated rampage yelling and screaming at the would-be backstabber, it is key to get the whole story. Rumors and gossip are juicy enough to be passed around whether or not they are true.

    • 2

Stay calm when deciding how to confront your backstabber. When you let your emotions run wild, you are likely to do something rash or embarrassing.

    • 3

Look back at your recent transgressions with the backstabber, and try to figure out if you may have done something to upset her. If it was a revenge back stab, it doesn't make it better, but the knowledge of why they did it may make it easier to confront them.

    • 4

Take into consideration whether or not this is a first offense. When you deal with a friend who makes a habit of stabbing others in the back, you may need to cut ties with her. If it has never happened before, keep that in mind when you confront her.

    • 5

Confront the backstabber in a calm and cool manner. Tell her what you heard or what you know they did, and ask what the reason was behind this action.

    • 6

Listen intently at what your friend has to say. If you are dealing with someone who would rather lie about what transpired, you may want to end the friendship at that time. Either way, you need to respect them enough to listen to what they have to say.

    • 7

Express to your backstabber that their words or actions have hurt you. You have to be straight forward and honest, and you have to allow them a chance to apologize or make restitution.
