How to Get Sponsored by a Skate Brand
Skate brands keep their sponsored skaters outfitted in the hottest clothing and make sure they always have the best equipment. If you find yourself watching skate videos and thinking you're better than the sponsored skaters, it's time to score yourself a sponsorship.

1
Choose a skate brand you want to approach about sponsoring you. Spend some time researching potential brands. You want to make sure the brand complements your personality, style and beliefs. Ask yourself if you would fit in with the brand's skate team.
-
2
Buy the brand's clothing, shoes and skating equipment. You want to demonstrate that you would make a good addition to the brand's skate team. Don't wear a competitor's brand while you're skating. You never know who is watching.
-
-
3
Participate in as many skating competitions as you can. Make sure the brand's logo is clearly visible on your clothing and have a friend videotape the competition.
-
4
Contact photographers who are routinely published in skating magazines and ask if you can skate for them.
-
5
Call the brand's corporate center and ask for the name of the person in charge of sponsorships. Ask what the protocol is for skaters looking for a sponsorship. You might have to compile a portfolio of photographs, video and a letter stating why you think you would make a good addition to the skate team.
-
6
Write a letter that clearly states why you should be the brand's newest skater. Keep it short, but describe your skating style and your personal beliefs. No company wants to take on a skater who is a trouble maker.
-
7
Edit the video footage you have of your skating. Make sure you include the dates, names of competitions and what place you took during the corresponding footage. Keep the video length 3 minutes and set it to an upbeat punk rock song.
-
8
Follow up with the company about a month after you've submitted your portfolio if you haven't heard anything. Ask if you can schedule a meeting to discuss the possibility of a sponsorship. If you're turned down choose another brand to approach, and keep submitting new portfolios as you improve.
