Whether you want to build a social network online, in your school, on the job or in your community, you must apply certain steps. One of the needs that humans have is to socialize with other people, and a network of like-minded friends and associates helps to fulfill that basic human need. Try a few of these tips to build a social network.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make the first move if you want to meet someone or have him join a network that you are building. You can't just wait for people to come to you. Join their friend's page or sit with new people in the cafeteria and introduce yourself. Once you've inserted yourself into others' social networks, then you can ask them to join yours online pages or book club, or any other social networking arena you want to build.

  2. Step 2

Invite prospective friends and colleagues to a party, and give them a reason to get to know you. Offer your time and home as a host. If you're building an online network, set up a fun game or quiz for others to play. Monitor the responses and keep the contacts. Give out a prize of some kind, then invite the contact list to join your social network.

  3. Step 3

Find a philanthropic interest and get involved. Working with others for a common cause is a great way to build a social network that has some meat to it. You will automatically have things in common with your new set of friends and deeper relationships can be formed from this initial group.

  4. Step 4

Join an athletic team or church group. Look in the daily paper for political or arts groups that are holding regular meetings. Attend regular business meetings of the local Chamber of Commerce or small business luncheon group.
