How to Change the Language of Pages in Mozilla Firefox

Rate: (0 Ratings)

Mozilla's Firefox web browser offers users an incredible blend of open-source flexibility and high-end functionality. Its standout feature is its expandability--with the dozens of add-ons available from Google and other third-party developers, you can turn Firefox into your own personalized web browser. With the right set of add-ons, you can even change the language of web pages you're viewing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Launch Firefox. Unless you changed its default settings during installation, there should be a Firefox shortcut on your desktop.
Step2
Go to the Firefox Add-Ons page on Mozilla's website. This should be your first (and likely last) stop for Firefox expansion packs.
Step3
Select the tab labeled "Language Support" from the menu of links on the left side of the page. This is where you'll find all of the translators and other language tools available for Firefox.
Step4
Look for the "gTranslate" add-on. It's usually featured on the front Language Support page, but if it's not, simply type its name into the search box near the menu bar.
Step5
Click on the "Add to Firefox" button next to the add-on's blurb.
Step6
Use gTranslate to translate chunks of foreign language text. Simply highlight the text in question, right-click it and select "Translate..." from the drop-down menu that appears.

Tips & Warnings

  • GTranslate uses Google's translation service to change the language of web pages you're viewing. However, there are other translator add-ons like Quick TransLation that work just as well.
  • Check out the "Dictionaries and Language Packs" section for add-ons that expand Firefox's language capabilities even further.
