Step 1
Find a date who likes statistics, baseball or both. Bring up baseball in conversations with people you already know to find someone who might be interested. Or find an attractive stranger wearing a ball cap or a T-shirt with your favorite team. Make a point of figuring out if he knows how to calculate a WHIP and other baseball statistics.

Step 2
Invite her to a game with you. Claim one of the playing teams together and keep track of the walks and base hits for each pitcher for your WHIP calculation.
-
Step 3
Ask him to calculate the WHIP for the different pitchers on your team. If you're interested in learning to do it yourself, ask him to explain it to you. If neither of you knows how to calculate the WHIP, go on to Step 4.
-
Step 4
Add the total number of walks each pitcher pitched to the total number of base hits. Divide that number by the number of innings pitched to two or three decimals, depending on how precise you want to be. The resulting number is the average walks and hits each pitcher pitched per inning.
