Now AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and Gmail have joined together so that you can chat with your AIM buddies through Gmail chat. It's called "chat integration" and setup is so simple and easy that in no time you can be chatting with everyone you know on AIM while being signed into your Gmail account.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Latest version of Internet Explorer or Firefox
  • Gmail account
  • Latest version of AIM
  1. Step 1

Install the latest versions of either Internet Explorer or Firefox on your computer. Set up a Gmail account, if you don't already have one by going to the official Gmail page. Click on the "Create an Account" button and fill out all on the required information. Then click the "I accept Create my Account." If your computer doesn't come with AIM already installed, then download and set up an AIM account. Create a screen name for yourself and select a password. Now you're ready to get started.

  2. Step 2

Sign on to your Gmail account and select "Chat" on the left side of your menu. If you don't see "Chat" then you need to make sure you haven't accidentally selected "Turn off Chat Gmail View," which is located at the bottom of your page. If you have selected it, then un-click it and sign on.

  3. Step 3

Click the down arrow that is located next to your status message and then choose "Sign into AIM." If you haven't done this before then type in your AIM screen name and password, and then click "Connect." Look in your chat list to see the names of your AIM buddies. If you want to add more go to the "Search," "Add," or "Invite" field to select them. Then click on the name of whoever you want to chat with to begin.
