How to Use a Kreg Jig

If you do any cabinetry or wood projects, you need to know about wood joinery. A kreg jig, used for cabinetry, is a pocket-hole maker guide. Wood joinery is easier when you use a kreg jig because it insures that the screw exits the wood in the center. Kreg jigs have several settings for different settings and thickness. • Clamp
• Table
• Drill and bits
• Self tapping screw for joint

1. Use a clamp to connect the kreg jig to a table. When you use a kreg jig you hold the jig firmly to the material to avoid compromising the hole.

2. Select the jig with the appropriate size hole. A kreg jig usually has a variety of sizes so you choose the one that is best for your job.

3. Set the height bar on the kreg jig to the thickness of the wood. This insures that a self-tapping screw will exit in the center and create a strong bond.

4. Adjust the depth collar gauge on the kreg jig for your drill bit. Rather than measure the depth of the hole or estimate it, most kreg jigs offer a detachable depth collar guide for the bit that stops further drilling when you are reach the appropriate spot.

5. Measure out the distance on the board to place the hole. If you have a series of boards that all require a hole 6 inches from the top, the stopper for the end of the board eliminates recreating the measurement. You simply set the stopper and place the jig in the appropriate spot. The stopper enables you to repeat the location of the hole for each board.

6. Guide the drill into the appropriate jig hole for the job. When you use the kreg jig all the guesswork about the angle is gone. The depth, location and angle all are preset. Use a kreg jig for perfect joinery.
