Step 1
Assume you need to buy two sets of measuring cups: one for liquid measure and one for dry measure. Manufacturers of measuring cups design them knowing you put specific ingredients in each kind. For example, a dry ingredient like flour cannot be accurately leveled off in liquid measure cups.
-
Step 2
Get the liquid measuring cups you can read from the top rather than from eye level at the sides. This avoids constant readjustments you must make after crouching into a lower position to determine that the ingredient rests at the level line.
-
Step 3
Prefer plastic to glass when looking for liquid measuring cups. Liquids collect quicker in plastic containers. Water levels easier along the gradation lines in plastic without curving at the surface.
-
Step 4
Obtain dry measuring cups with long enough handles that extend out from the brim of the cups. These make it easier to level off dry ingredients with the back of a knife, like flour or instant pancake mixes, after scooping them.
-
Step 5
Handle the dry measuring cups and visually inspect them before buying. Make sure the handles feel comfortable and the gradation lines along the cups stand out clearly.
-
Step 6
Check the label on the packaging for the measuring cups. Make sure it says "dishwasher safe" if you plan to throw them in the dishwasher. Otherwise, the ink demarcating the gradation lines rubs off after multiple washings.
