Making the choice to become a bodyguard is a serious commitment and when you have proven yourself at less demanding jobs, you can start thinking about working for celebrity clientele. Unlike the Hollywood portrayal of a bodyguard, working for a celebrity has more demands than most bodyguard positions. Working your way into a celebrity bodyguard career takes training, patience and lots of organization.

From Quick Guide: Bodyguard Basics
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Train your mind and your body by attending training courses to receive the required state and job related skills to work as a bodyguard. Maintain your physical fitness level with a daily regime that targets both strength and endurance.

  2. Step 2

Take local bodyguard jobs to build a reputation as a reliable, fast thinking employee who is capable of handling emergencies. Take the tough jobs others pass on and show a willingness to go beyond the basic requirements.

  3. Step 3

Apply for jobs with security service companies that cater to the celebrity crowd. Expect to back up your reputation on lesser jobs before standing in a big star's house.

  4. Step 4

Provide the services a celebrity client expects. Unlike other bodyguard jobs this new clientele expects you to plan routes to and from events, know secure routes for emergency exits and be capable of handling a crowd of adoring fans. Becoming a positive part of a celebrity's public relations team is expected as you are often the face and voice of your client in public.

  5. Step 5

Go into business as an independent contractor when your reputation in the security community is established. Obtain the additional licensing and permits needed to work as an independent contractor and get ready to rub elbows with the stars.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ex-military and police can easily convert their training and skills into being a bodyguard.
