A samurai hat, also known as a kabuto, was worn by ancient Japanese warriors. Making a samurai hat out of paper is a fun and inexpensive craft for children. Follow these steps to make a paper samurai hat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 20-inch square sheet of paper
  • Marker or crayon
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Place your 20-inch square piece of paper on a flat surface. Take one corner of the paper and fold it over to the adjacent side. The result will be a triangular piece of paper. There will be a small rectangular piece of paper protruding from the triangle--just snip that off. Crease the spot where you have folded the paper.

  2. Step 2

Now, bring the 2 ends of the paper together and fold it from side to side. Again, crease the fold.

  3. Step 3

Unfold the paper and make sure that you can see the middle crease. If not, refold it and make a crease.

  4. Step 4

Grasp the top left tip of the paper and fold it in so it is touching the crease in the middle.

  5. Step 5

Take the end of the paper on the other side and fold it in to the middle crease.

  6. Step 6

Fold one of the bottom flaps up and crease it. Then, turn the paper over and fold the flap of paper on the bottom. Again, put a crease in your paper.

  7. Step 7

Tuck in any loose ends of paper, using scotch tape if necessary. Decorate your hat using crayons or markers. You can also add decorative paper to it. Then, wear your hat.
