How to Make a House of Cards
Building a house of cards is a fun way to use that extra deck of playing cards you have laying around. It's also a great exercise in patience, skill and hand-eye coordination. This handmade house can be sensitive, but there are ways to ensure it will stay put.

1
Decide on a flat surface and a quiet work area to build your house of cards. Hardwood floors work well, as do sturdy and steady tables.
-
2
Purchase a new deck of standard-sized playing cards, or you may use a deck you currently already have.
-
-
3
Create notches by cutting slits in your cards with scissors before building the house. These notches will allow the cards to tightly fit together so they won't fall down easily when you're finished.
-
4
Make the "base" of the house of cards by carefully leaning two cards together. This forms a letter "A" which will serve as the frame. Repeat this six times.
-
5
Lay several cards flat across the top of the A-frame cards you've built. Attach them together using the tabs created by the notches so they stay connected. It creates a sturdy base for the next level.
-
6
Repeat Step 3, but only this time use five A frames instead of six. Repeat Step 4, and be sure to connect them securely using the tabs.
-
7
Continue the process, using one less A frame each row up until you've used all of your cards and have a completed, sturdy house of cards.

Tips & Warnings
Be sure you choose a surface that's not prone to moving or shaking when bumped.
New decks of cards work best since they're stiffer and more stable.
If you have children or pets, they may accidentally bump the house of cards, causing it to collapse. Be sure you're working in a quiet area away from a lot of foot traffic.
