Keep your bar and all of your utensils as clean as possible, as nothing destroys a great alcoholic beverage faster than tainting with it other drink ingredients or dirty glassware.
-
2
Make drinks as cold as possible but try not to water them down. While most mixed drinks call for a large quantity of ice, you can reduce melting by keeping your ice in the freezer at all times and using large cubes instead of shaved or crushed ice.

3
Use measuring tools to make alcoholic drinks, as even the best bartenders can flub a great drink with a poor measurement. Jiggers, lines shot glasses and measuring tools are your best friend, so don't be afraid to use them.

4
Choose the highest quality ingredients possible for the best tasting drink. While many ordinary liquors can make a fine drink, stay away from the cheap brands. If you really want to make an impression with a great tasting drink, reach for the top shelf.

5
Watch your mixes carefully, as some ingredients are not meant to be paired. Keep grain based alcohol, such as gin, whiskey and vodka, away from mixes that include wine based liquors, such as brandy and cognac. Additionally, milk and creams are used in many drinks, but should never be mixed with fresh fruit juice. To get a fruity flavor in a creamy drink, use a flavored liqueur instead of fresh juice.
