1
Choose high-quality organic ingredients to make the best face mask possible. Masks should be made fresh, mixing only as much as you need for a single application. Some ingredients can be mixed simply with a spoon or fork, while others may need the help of a quality blender.

2
Select moisturizing ingredients for dry or aging skin. For example, avocados help to combat wrinkles, bananas sooth burns and chapped skin, olive oil is a deep moisturizer with firming qualities while buttermilk, and natural yogurt contains lactic acid, which helps to gently slough off dead skin cells. All of these ingredients have moisturizing qualities and can be mixed and matched to make a good home facial.

Heal scars, pimples or other damaged skin by adding ingredients, such as carrots, egg whites, green beans and peaches. Green apple gently exfoliates the skin and can help to lighten scars.

Refine pores and combat acne with your home face mask. Honey is antibacterial and helps to thicken your mask, while cucumber is a light astringent and helps to close pores and reduce bags under the eyes. Reduce oil and shine by adding egg yolk, lemon, orange juice, pineapple or strawberries.

5
Add exfoliation to your skin mask with brown sugar, oatmeal, sea salts or even small seeds such as flaxseed or poppy seeds. Apply an exfoliating face mask with gentle circular motions, massing the mask into the skin for three to five minutes, and then allow the mask to set for 15 to 20 minutes.

6
Make not just a good face mask, but a great face mask by selecting three ingredients and blending them until smooth. Try to select at least one ingredient that will thicken your mask, such as yogurt, honey, avocados or bananas. Most masks can be made with equal parts of each ingredient. However, use your judgment, as citrus juices and oils should be used sparingly while egg whites and yolk or honey can be used more abundantly.

7
Apply your face mask to clean skin and leave for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Some ingredients may cause more sensitivity, such as citrus juices, so rinse your mask if you begin to notice irritation and then use less of that juice the next time around. Each person is different, so while some may tolerate an ingredient fine, others may have a different experience.
